JULIYEN'S PAGE
Plastic
bags used this year:
Hi my name is Juliyen. Earlier this year my friends and I discovered how
bad disposible plastic bags can be on our environment and specifically our
oceans.
Read 'The
Word'-Our Kids Blog on what we're doing in our community to protect the
environment
With the help of my friends Keenan, Ellen and others we are now working
with local towns in Oregon and Washington to voluntarily stop using plastic
bags and instead use reuseable bags, backpacks or very large pockets.
Hopefully stopping the use of plastic bags will also help people start to
think about reducing their use of all sorts of 'use and toss' containers
and bags.
If kids in every community worked to voluntarily stop
the use of disposible plastic bags, we would save the environment and ocean
from millions of plastic bags!
Below is some more information on how you as a fellow kid, or your
organization can help. Please contact us if you would like to help in
making your town free of plastic bags.
Do something drastic. Cut the Plastic.
Help make your town a plastic bag free community!
-Over 500 Billion plastic bags are used each year. Wow!!
-Less than 1% of plastic bags are recycled. Where do the rest go?
-Plastic Bags end up in our seas, lakes and rivers.
-Plastic bags kill creatures including: Whales, Dolphins, Seals and Turtles
.ouch!
How can you or your organization help?
As A KID: You can organize a group of kids and adults in
your town to promote a plastic bag free month. BYOB month. Bring Your Own
Bag Month!
As A CLUB or ORGANIZATION: Your organization or club can
help in the promotion of a BYOBag Month: Print copies of flyers, and hand
them out.
Any youth groups or teams should enjoy this!
As A STORE: Retailers and big shops can instruct your
clerks to announce a BYOBag month to each customer at the checkout stands.
You can also post copies of the flyers
You can also provide alternate re-usable bag solutions
